Alluring Appetizers

  Matchbaker® Romantic Tip: Asparagus Spirals

Appetizers are the perfect opportunity to set the night off to a great start! Here are some conversation starters and tips for new and longterm relationships, and before you think you've already heard them -- read on. Ask him or her about what kind of challenges they've faced this week. Either with work, or with raising children, with a recent move or any event in their life, etc. Absolutely everyone has challenges, and this question quickly reveals what kind of priorities someone has in their life at the time. Also, try to focus on listening without thinking of what you're going to say next. When you keep the focus on them, their brain will reward them because chemically it feels good to talk about ourselves. And when their brain rewards them with this feel-good chemical after discussing whatever is happening in their lives, they will link that feel-good sensation to you. AND you also get to learn more about your partner! You're welcome.

Matchbaker® Romantic Tip: We're The Perfect Pear

Whether you're married, or just starting the relationship of your dreams, make this special pear appetizer to say to them (perhaps again) that "we're the perfect pair."  Then, when they inevitably ask "why?" give them another pear with all of the reasons why you think you're the perfect pair written in pen all over the skin. But don't eat it, talk about each reason that you've written on the fruit. If you're married, this wonderful, simple message will reiterate your partner's value and increase your marital bond even more. If you're just starting out, and would like to begin dating, this will really impact your partner's mind and heart whenever they think of you and increase your bond all the more.  Bon appetite.

  1. 1 medium Bartlett pear, cut in half
  2. 1 cup granulated sugar
  3. 1 cup water
  4. Juice of 1/2 lemon
  5. 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped
For The Mascarpone Filling
  1. 3/4 cup mascarpone cheese
  2. 1 teaspoon finely chopped chives
  3. 1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste
  4. 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
  1. In a small saucepan, combine sugar, water, lemon juice, vanilla seeds and bean to a simmer for about 5 min. or until sugar has completely dissolved.
  2. After washing the pear, cut in half and remove core with melon baller, and remove stem with pairing knife.
  3. Add the pears to the saucepan and simmer over low heat, allowing pears to remain in liquid for around 10 - 12 min. or until the skins become a little translucent and the pear tender.
  4. Turn off heat and allow pears to cool slightly in the liquid before removing and draining.
For The Filling
  1. Meanwhile, mix the mascarpone cheese, chives, salt and pepper in a small bowl until well combined. Set aside.
Grilling The Pears
  1. Lightly coat the grill with vegetable oil and preheat grill to 400 degrees (high).
  2. When grill is ready, place pear halves face down for around 4 - 6 minutes, until the flesh is slightly caramelized.
  3. Flip pears over and apply 2 tbsp of mascarpone cheese mixture to center of each pear half. Remove from grill when cheese begins to melt. Serve immediately.
  4. Garnish with chopped chives (optional).
